Human-in-the-Loop AI
Review gates, exception routing, and data-handling rules so AI assists without taking over decisions.
What does human-in-the-loop AI mean in practice?
Human-in-the-loop means the workflow is designed so a person reviews and owns the decisions that carry consequence. AI prepares, drafts, matches, and flags; a named reviewer confirms before anything is used, sent, or posted. In practice this is a set of concrete artifacts: defined review gates, exception routing rules, validation checks, and written data-handling standards.
Where humans stay in control
- Final classification and approval of financial entries
- Exceptions, disputes, and anything without precedent
- Anything customer-facing, contractual, or legally consequential
- Personnel, compensation, and performance decisions
- Any output where being wrong is expensive or hard to reverse
The four controls I build in
- Review gates: an explicit checkpoint with a named owner before output is used
- Exception routing: unmatched or unusual items go to a person, not a guess
- Validation: totals, tie-outs, and sanity checks that catch drift early
- Data-handling rules: what may be shared, what must be redacted, which tools are approved
Why this makes adoption easier, not slower
Teams resist AI when they cannot tell what it did or whether they are still accountable. A workflow with visible review gates gives people a defensible answer: here is what was prepared automatically, here is what I checked, here is what I decided. That clarity is usually what unlocks adoption.
Boundaries
I do not build fully autonomous accounting, legal, HR, or compliance decision-making, and I do not recommend it. AI assists. Humans decide.
Engagements run on-site across Corona, the Inland Empire, Orange County, and greater Southern California, and remotely elsewhere. Work is delivered in English or Spanish.
